A week or so ago, I made a trip to the local Costco with a friend of mine and I bought myself a generator. This unit has 7000 watts of power and peaks at 9000 for temporary peaks. It has electric push-button start and even remote start/stop allowing me to start/stop it from inside my house
This baby is large enough to power my water heater, gas furnace, well pump, refrigerators and a few basic lights (maybe even a TV!). That would certainly make living through an extended outage much more comfortable than the nine long days we experienced with Hurricane Sandy!
Now I need to find an electrician to help wire our panel for generator feed and I will really feel comfortable. Now that I am prepared, we will probably never have an outage... which would be just fine with me!
