Expedit-ed Purchase
My big brother turned me onto the Expedit style of bookcase from Ikea - good advice. Not the flimsy, self-assemble "furniture" found at Target and Walmart, this set is heavy, sturdy and deep enough to freestand. Nice. Headed out this weekend to get one for myself in east Jersey.
I bought a new model in Expedit line, which is only offered in black and sports various sized cubbies that can store various sized stuff - I liked that some sizes were wider than the typical 13x13 cubes... this allowed me to tuck away my current stereo and CD player.
Loaded it up with a couple wicker Ikea baskets and bought a couple plain black ItSo baskets from Target, which fit perfectly. Liking it so far! My only regret is that I had to get the black color. I might have liked birch or white as those would no show any dust, minor scrapes and fingerprints as much. On the other hand, a 99 cent Sharpie marker can take care of any of minor blemishes on this unit.
Having my stereo all set up and in a quiet location has brought with it a new appreciation for music. I find myself just sitting a listening to tunes like I did as a teen. Good stuff!

Wow, that's amazing. I like the new varied cubby size idea, and that you made it L shaped. I, too, have Knipsa woven baskets in mine.
I agree about the stereo, too. I listen to mine, now that I have good speakers, every single day. We both used to be into music and the stereo all through our youths...it's good to renew the passion ( I still only listen to old music, though...lol. If it wasn't for the 70 s and 80 s, my CD rack would be like Mother Hubbard's cupboard).
Thanks for sharing this photo.
