My Latest Picture Box

So here it is, my latest purchase. Not a replacement for my beautiful Canon 7D (certainly not!), but more of a "backup" kick-around camera. At relatively minor cost, I was able to buy this aged, but still very capable, camera. I got an inexpensive and lightweight lens that is suitably matched.

Similar to the difference that we all feel when we buy a new car versus drive a clunker, I expect that this low-cost setup will enable me to worry less about my equipment and focus (pun intended) more on the activity... that of creating photographs.

I believe this freedom will allow me to find hidden gems where I would never dare tread before. For example, I wouldn't ever consider taking my expensive camera out in the rain... but with the help of a plastic Walmart bag, this baby is going to the football game with me.

This will also let me enjoy some time taking pictures and teaching photography to my kids. No more... "be careful" or "look out for the lens" comments needed. They too will be free to enjoy taking pictures, learning and spending time with their old man. All without the mental encumbrances that inherently come with the worry of breaking something expensive.

Only time will tell if my experiment works... I am really anxious to get started. If it doesn't work out as planned, then back onto eBay it goes... with the largest expense being my effort.

You'll love the camera for all the reasons you list.

If my memory serves me right, that one takes better images with Fujifilm 400 rather than Kodachrome.

The guy at the yellow Fotomat kiosk in the Jordan Marsh parking lot would know for sure, though.

That's funny - no more film even with this aging beauty. Although it isn't as speedy (focus, burst rate) or has as many megapixels as my Canon 7D, it still takes pretty good pictures. Liking my experiment so far... liberating!
