Drove our overweight Honda Pilot up to Connecticut on Friday morning. Not too bad a drive up (just over 3 hours door to door) and all pieces of the load remained with us. When we arrived, lots of friendly upperclassmen were there to help get the freshmen into their rooms. Clear skies, however, it was brutally hot - 93 degrees actual temp and with humidity added in, the "real feel" topped 104. Whoa!
Rachel's room is on the third floor, which made it easy enough to take the stairs with a few smaller things. Overall, getting everything up there wasn't too bad. My folding little cart made the heavy trip to the elevator efficient.
Jackie and Rachel took time to get everything sorted and set up, while Alex and I went for a walk to stay out of the way of Rachel and her roommate, Molly (from Maine) and her family. During our walk, we came across Joseph the UConn Husky just outside of Gampel Auditorium.
Left her there at 4PM on Day 1 and we headed to our hotel for a much needed round of showers. Then went out to dinner and a fast stop at Walmart.
This morning, we headed back to see Rachel one last time and deliver a couple things, then turned to make our way back south.
As we drove off, I took a second to capture the sunrise over Horsebarn Hill.
Although we will miss her terribly... I know Rachel is going to be happy there in Connecticut!

Wow, how cool is that...the first bird has flown the coop. Family life will never again be quite the same. There's nothing quite as excitingly and exhilaratingly mortifying as being a college freshman.
PS You think you were hot...it's amazing the husky didn't croak right there in his fur suit! I can only imagine how his head must stink.
