Clinton Book Shop

For a little shop, this bookstore draws some interesting author booksignings. It is neat to have such a store in town. Alas, I do think that the Barnes & Nobles and Boarders will wins this battle -- I noted a "for lease" sign in the window, which tells me that this long standing fixture in Clinton will not last much longer.

Note: This is the first in a mini-series of Clinton pics. Stay tuned...

A "For Lease" sign. Oh, fiddlesticks. It's a shame, but expected. Even Borders Bookstore chain, as you may know, is wobbling like Joe Frazier after a fierce Ali left hook. It should go out of business, from my readings, in 2010 or early 2011. Tip: use those Border's gift cards, pronto. Soon it will be Amazon, and Barnes and Noble. They will begin to take on authors, much like Walmart is the only retailer for recent CDs by The Eagles, ACDC, Kiss and this week, Jimmy Buffett. If an author wants a book deal, forget Penguin and Random House...they'll lie in the tgraveyard next to Circuit City and Borders and The Clinton Bookstore. Writers will get their books published at Amazon and B&N, 50% to whorehouse madame--I mean, Amazon and B&N--and 50% to author. Your book sells, you make money. It doesn't, well, you die on the vine. The future of publishing is here.

Bye bye Clinton Bookstore. You were a pip-squeek with might and intent and ideals. Goliath has spoken--you will need to close your doors or morph into a donut shop.
