A Real Thriller!

Crazy... maybe. Eccentric... surely. Talented... without question.

Michael Jackson was all of these things and more - this guy was an absolute hit making machine.

Although he modified himself (literally and figuratively) over the many years that he was in the public eye, I choose to remember the Michael of the Thriller era. What an album!! This 1982 pop masterpiece set the world afire. Cuts like Billy Jean, Beat It, Human Nature, The Girl is Mine, Wanna Be Startin' Something... pure magic!

Not only was the music cutting edge for the time, Michael also created a new genre of music videos and dance. I still recall watching the early days of MTV (remember when they used to play music videos?!) and repeatedly seeing these theatrical shorts. He single handedly catapulted this media format into the mainstream - a format that would create superstars out of those who could successfully play in it. Video really did kill the radio star... a la Milli Vanilli.

Thriller, the best selling album of all time - 100+ million copies sold worldwide... what's #2 you ask... AC/DC's "Back in Black" at a measly 45 million units. Not even close.

I think I'll give it another spin... for old times sake.

Thanks for the memories, Michael. RIP.
