Greed is Good

Just sitting around and came across the movie Wall Street on TV last night. Old Gordon Gekko and Bud Fox... love it. Back when Charlie Sheen wasn't relegated to weekly sitcoms... though I do like "Two and a Half Men".

As the theme is somewhat apropos in the current market climate, I thought I'd watch a few minutes of this 1987 classic. A few minutes passed and I continued to view... I watched Gordo mention Sun Tzu's Art of War and later in the flick Bud quotes some of it.

So, in this wonderous age of easy information access, I thought I'd do some searching and read bits of "The Art of War". The complexity is that it was originally written in Chinese and I tend to struggle enough with English!!

Thankfully, Lionel Giles interpreted Sun Tzu's most famous work - appears that he did so back in 1910... which is just the other day compared to when Sun Tzu wrote (~450bc).

If interested, follow this link. It was very easy and interesting reading thanks to the excellent work of Lionel. Though I do have to take his word for the translation.

Simple rules to follow during wartime... perhaps Barack O should peruse this little list as well. The Commander-in-Chief might find this to be educational considering his limited experience.

Now that I am "armed", my colleagues at work ought to take warning... much of this translates neatly into the business environment.

Sun Tzu is mentioned in The Sopranos, too.

Obama is a thug. Rahm Emanual is his bodyguard. Pelosi is his consigliere. The Americans are the hapless shopkeepers, paying "insurance" so not to be "whacked".

See, I did leanr something from watching all Sporanos episodes: I can spot an crime syndicate when I see one.
